MCP server

A sheet music MCP server
for any client

ScanSing is a remote MCP server for optical music recognition. Add it to Cursor, VS Code or any other MCP client and your agent can turn PDFs and photos of printed scores into MusicXML, then work with parts, keys and MIDI.

A new email gets 20 free pages a month. No card.

Server
https://mcp.scansing.app/mcp
Transport
Streamable HTTP, OAuth or Bearer key
Then ask

Convert scores/*.pdf to MusicXML and put them in out/.

Cursor

Add ScanSing to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json in a project), or through in Cursor Settings, under MCP:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "scansing": {
      "url": "https://mcp.scansing.app/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Cursor opens the ScanSing sign-in page; enter your email and open the link we send.

VS Code

In .vscode/mcp.json, or with MCP: Add Server from the command palette:

{
  "servers": {
    "scansing": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.scansing.app/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Any other MCP client

Connect to https://mcp.scansing.app/mcp over Streamable HTTP. Clients that support OAuth show the sign-in page. Others send a key in a header:

Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY

Get the key with your email on your account page; a new email gets 20 free pages a month.

What you can ask

  • Transcribe this score to MusicXML: https://scansing.app/assets/scores/hosanna.pdf
  • What key and time signature is it in, and what is the alto's range?
  • Give me just the tenor part, a tone lower.
  • Make a MIDI of the soprano line so I can practise.

Files on your machine

The server runs remotely and cannot read your disk. An agent that can run commands asks it for a one-time upload link and sends the file with curl; the answer is the recognition id. The tool list has every tool and what it spends.

How accurate it is

On eight clean engraved scores ScanSing read 99.0% of notes right, against 96.7% for PlayScore 2 and 71.8% for Audiveris. The comparison has every score, the method and where ScanSing loses.

Pages and limits

PDF, PNG, JPEG, HEIC (iPhone photos), TIFF and WebP, up to 30 MB and 40 pages. Printed, engraved music reads best; handwritten scores are not supported. A page takes about 10 seconds, a long PDF a few minutes. Only recognising spends pages; describing, extracting a part, transposing and MIDI work on the stored result and are free. Free: 20 pages a month for a new email; Starter $9 for 300 pages a month; Pro $29 for 1,500. Details on the connector page.

Questions

Is it listed in the MCP Registry?

Yes, as app.scansing/scansing in the official MCP Registry.

Can I use it without an agent?

Yes. The REST API does the same with the same key and pages.

What does it cost?

A new email gets 20 pages a month, without a card. Starter is $9 for 300 pages a month, Pro $29 for 1,500. Only recognising spends pages.

What does ScanSing see?

Only what a tool is given: the score or its address, and the options. Scores are not used to train models.

Can it read handwritten music?

No. It is built for printed, engraved scores.
