ScanSing for Claude

Read sheet music
in Claude

Claude cannot read notes from a PDF on its own. With the ScanSing connector it can: give it a score and ask for the MusicXML, the key and ranges, one voice, another key or a MIDI file to rehearse with.

A new email gets 20 free pages a month. No card.

Connector address
https://mcp.scansing.app/mcp
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http scansing https://mcp.scansing.app/mcp
Then ask

What key is this hymn in, and give me the alto part as MIDI.

In claude.ai and the Claude apps

  1. Open Settings → Connectors. Find ScanSing in the directory, or choose Add custom connector and enter https://mcp.scansing.app/mcp.
  2. Select Connect. A ScanSing sign-in page opens.
  3. Enter your email and open the link we send. A new email gets an account with 20 free pages a month. If you already have a key (omr_…), sign in with it instead.
  4. Back in Claude, ask about a score. Give it a link to a PDF or image, or attach a small image.

On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner may need to add the connector for the organisation first.

In Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http scansing https://mcp.scansing.app/mcp

Then run /mcp, pick scansing and sign in the same way. Claude Code can also send files from your computer: it asks ScanSing for a one-time upload link and sends the file with curl.

What you can ask

  • Transcribe this score to MusicXML: https://scansing.app/assets/scores/hosanna.pdf
  • What key and time signature is it in, and what is the alto's range?
  • Give me just the tenor part, a tone lower.
  • Make a MIDI of the soprano line so I can practise.

How accurate it is

On eight clean engraved scores ScanSing read 99.0% of notes right, against 96.7% for PlayScore 2 and 71.8% for Audiveris. The comparison has every score, the method and where ScanSing loses.

Pages and limits

PDF, PNG, JPEG, HEIC (iPhone photos), TIFF and WebP, up to 30 MB and 40 pages. Printed, engraved music reads best; handwritten scores are not supported. A page takes about 10 seconds, a long PDF a few minutes. Only recognising spends pages; describing, extracting a part, transposing and MIDI work on the stored result and are free. Free: 20 pages a month for a new email; Starter $9 for 300 pages a month; Pro $29 for 1,500. Details on the connector page.
